University of Vermont Medical Center, Vermont’s academic medical center and founding member of the University of Vermont Health Network, seeks a Network Regional Transport and Transfer System (RTS) Medical Officer.
The University of Vermont Medical Center is located in Burlington, Vermont, a small vibrant city situated on the shore of beautiful Lake Champlain.
The Medical Officer will oversee both the Regional Transfer Center and UVM Health Network Transport Teams in collaboration with the Regional Network Director. The Medical Officer shall be responsible for: partnering with and educating other physicians who participate in the daily functioning of the Regional Transfer Center and transport teams; evaluating and ensuring the quality of medical care provided by the transport teams; and oversight of Quality Assurance for inter-facility transports in the UVM Health Network. Working with specialty physicians will have oversight of guidelines for prospective, concurrent and retrospective direction for operations of the Regional Transport System. Medical Officer will be expected to stay current in transport medicine standards with industry and program involvement. Some clinical responsibilities will be required to maintain competency.
Medical Degree (MD, DO) with post-graduate training in an ACGME/ABMS accredited specialty. Specialty areas of emergency medicine (preferred), critical care, surgery, or internal medicine will be considered. The successful candidate must be licensed in New York and Vermont upon start date.
Three or more years of direct patient care. An understanding of EMS systems, organization and operation. Demonstrated interest and skills in EMS education at all levels including simulation experience.
Experience in EMS leadership, preferably in a medical director role.
Experience with Performance Improvement programs as they relate to a clinical or EMS domain. Experience in aeromedical transport medicine preferred.
Proven success in a clinical specialty area as evidenced by successful patient outcomes, a high level of professionalism, and excellent communication skills.
Must have demonstrated professional experience in progressively responsible positions in healthcare, with a strong working knowledge of physician practice, practice management, leadership roles. Professional work experience in integrated systems preferred.
Leadership skills and the tenacity to deal with complex structures and tasks over a period of time is required.
